Description: This tour brings you first to the old town of Quito, visiting the Parliament Building, whose stone mural records Ecuador's history. We will visit the colonial temples and monasteries of this urban jewel, designated by UNESCO a World Heritage Site, with the Independence Plaza, the Cathedral, the church of El Sagrario, the Presidential Palace, the Municipal Building and the Archbishop's Palace, the Church of La Compañía de Jesús, one of the most impressive of Latin America, with its breathtaking gilded altars, considered the finest example of baroque art in America, and the Church of San Francisco, one of the great religious buildings of the New World.
Then lunch at one of the most renowned restaurants in downtown Quito and continue to the Equatorial Monument, located only 25 Km. [16 miles] north of Quito, which marks the exact Middle of the World, latitude 0º 0´ 0'', and commemorates the measurements of the earth made by the French Geodesic Mission on the 18th century.
The tour includes a visit to the Ethnographic Museum inside the monument that shows the different Native American groups living in Ecuador.
A certificate for having crossed the Equator will be given at the end of the tour.
