Santa Cruz is the only one of the five inhabited islands that has a decent choice of land-based accommodation ranging from budget to almost first class. During the popular vacation times of June, July, August, December, early January and Easter it’s advisable to make reservations. Prices are much higher compared to the mainland.
Hotels
The most appealing and original choice in Puerto Ayora is the chic but informal
Red Mangrove Inn. The hotel commands fine views across Academy Bay from its wide, wooden terrace [
or from its sunken jacuzzi], and each room is decorated individually in bright colors.
Prices depend on whether they have seaviews or not, and season. If he’s home, affable owner Polo Navarro will help with any travel arrangements. The hotel rents sea kayaks, windsurfers and mountain bikes, as well as organizing fishing, diving or camping trips. The hotel has a tasty but pricey restaurant on request.
