The
principle
tourist attractions
are the rivers,
haciendas
and hills,
in particular
hacienda El
Salto, River
Seco, Cachari
hill and the
Dimas marsh
(Estero de
Dimas) in
the parish
of Pimocha.
Quevedo
Quevedo
is the commercial
heart of the
province.
The town has
grown considerably,
at a rate
rarely seen
in other towns
in the country.
It is also
one of the
country’s
youngest towns.
Quevedo is
situated along
the Quevedo-Latacunga-Quito
highway. Other
routes leading
to the town
are via highways
Quevedo- Santo
Domingo de
los Colorados-Quito;
Quevedo-Babahoyo-Guayaquil
and Quevedo-Balzar-Guayaquil.
Quevedo
is also an
important
river town.
Several rivers
flow through
the town including
Quevedo or
alto Palenque,
San Pablo,
Lulo, Tonglo
and Macul.
The rapid
increase in
population
numbers is
due to high
immigration
rates from
other provinces.
This is mainly
for the purpose
of work opportunities
which have
opened up
in the area.
Quevedo
also has a
significant
Chinese-Ecuadorian
population;
it is said
that the Chinese
food here
is among some
of the best
in the country.
