The
Town of Zaruma
Situated
towards the
south east
of the province,
Zaruma is
one of Ecuador's
most beautiful
towns given
its original
urban feel
and its construction
which follows
the natural
formation
of the terrain.
The architecture
is attractive;
the town enjoys
a favourable
climate and
accommodates
some 7266
inhabitants.
Zamura is
located at
an altitude
of 1200 metres
and is situated
along the
cordillera
of Viscaya
and obtained
cantonal status
on 26th November
1826.
The
Beaches of
Jambeli
These
beautiful
beaches can
be easily
accessed via
road from
Puerto Bolivar
which takes
around 30mins.
The site also
houses ample
tourist infrastructure.
Many tourists
arrive at
the spot from
Cuenca.
Festivals
and Traditional
Dishes
The
International
Banana Fair
is celebrated
in Machala
every September.
This has proven
a great tourist
attraction.
In the festivals
of Zaruma
there are
also the Mining
fairs, Marine
expositions
and Coffee
festivals.
Typical
dishes include
rice-mote
(white Andean
corn) with
cheese and
pork and plantain
with egg and
cheese
Puyango
Petrified
Forest
Puyango
Petrified
forest is
located approx.
1 hour from
Machachi and
represents
the only protected
patrimonial
palaentological
site in Latin
America.
The area extends
some 2,658
hectares to
the province
of Loja.
