Tonchigue is the last little town on the coastal road going south from
Same before it turns inland towards
Muisne. Just beyond the town a rough ranch road leads out to the headland of La Galera, one of the most remote and dramatic parts of the Ecuadorian coastline. Out here there are isolated beaches, cliffs, coves, caves, tunnels, forests and one or two small settlements only accessible from the sea.
Getting there. Transport is available from Tonchigue to
Esmeraldas [

Atacames [
