 PUERTO BOLIVAR
Located some 7 km from Machala this port is the largest area for south coast banana and shrimp exportation in Ecuador. The port itself is protected by mangroves and during the day makes a pleasant waterfront detour with motorized boat services available for crossing to the Jambeli beaches which are the locals favorite vacation spot from Machala bustling town center.
Getting there. Boats leave 09:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00 returning one hour later. Departures are more often on weekends [$2* per person], or US$10.00* for a boat with up to 18 people anytime.

The Waterfront area houses various restaurants infamous for fresh quality fish, lobster and shrimps form various balcony positions as you watch a host of seabirds and fishing boats glide quietly by.

Isla del Amor, is another site worth exploring with a rich bird life and huge mangroves [US$10.00* per boat]. Or just rent a canoe for an hour to explore the surrounding channels [Insect repellent is a must].

Other excursions can be made to nearby beaches, such as Playas Bravita [35 minutes], or to Costa Rica [2 hours]. Take always your passport because a military base is crossed by on the way.
Getting there. A boat to Costa Rica for the whole day is about US$80* [up to 14 people].
