 PORTOVIEJO / GETTING THERE
Portoviejo's airport lies about two kilometers [one-and-a-quarter miles] northwest of the town center. Taxis are cheap. TAME [05 - 633600 or 632429] has several flights a week to and from Quito, although they fly more regularly to Manta.

The bus terminal is southwest of the downtown area. There you'll find both local bus companies and long distance ones. At the terminal entrance you have to pay a fee of around US$0.05 and then ask for the buses you're looking for. To go south towards Puerto Lopez, take a bus to Jipijapa and change there.

There is a frequent bus service performed by Reina del camino cooperative to Quito [US$7*, 81/2 hours]. To Santo Domingo [US$5*, 51/2 hours]. Coactur cooperative goes to Manta [1 hour], Bahia de Caraquez [2 hours] and Guayaquil [4 hours].

Taxi
A taxi to or from the center costs around US$1*.

*The prices are approximately
