Overlooking the Pacific ocean the village of Ayampe is located in the heart of the Ecuadorian coast, 85 km of
Santa Elena, along the famous
Route of the Sun [
Ruta del So]. Rio Ayampe [
Ayampe river] is in the middle of the
Guayas and
Manabi provinces. This river has given its name to the village and is an excellent riverside walk either side of these sparkling crystalline waters. The forest lands are quite humid although there are higher elevations on the face of the mountain that produce with the rich soils leafy trees diverse in nature as well as many fine orchards that are frequented by exotic hummingbirds and a very rich fauna.
This part of the Ecuadorian coastline has outstanding landscapes that you can meditate on for hours with undisturbed tranquility while at the end of this magnificent view you'll find "Los Ahorcados" islands, which are two elevations that resemble each other as twins whom play unfailingly with the waves, it is very surreal to view.
Ayampe, is a biodiversity heaven and for those searching for serenity and rest Ayampe, is one of the most recommended places to visit.
Enetertainment. In Ayampe, there are no Discos or Bars. This is a quiet town for those looking for complete rest, avoid noise and is a place for those who will allow this scenic heaven of sea, river, and mountains seep deep into the senses within these naturalistic and tourist resources.
For the last three years Ayampe has become an excellent alternative for tourism. There are four hostels servicing this village coastal resort that have become an integral part in attracting day by day more visitors from all over the world.
Getting there. To get here by
bus, take any of the many buses that run between
Puerto Lopez and
Manglaralto. Ayampe is a 15 minute walk from the main highway.
