Azogues
This
canton extends
for around
1,550 kms
squared.
The city has
a healthy
climate with
average temperatures
of around
13 to 16 degrees
centigrade.
A number of
rivers and
streams flow
through the
area and agricultural
production
is varied.
Canar
Canar
has an area
size of 2,732
kms squared.
Hatun Canar
resided here
at the beginning
of the colonial
period, before
the Spaniards
established
themselves
in Azogues.
It is believed
that wheat
was produced
here in the
1550s.
The landscape
consists of
a number of
elevations
such as Pucaloma,
Paredones,
Cutuguay and
el Bueran.
As in Azogues,
agriculture
and cattle
breeding is
the main economic
activity here.
The zone has
the perfect
climate and
land for growing
potatoes,
mellocos
and ocas.
Agricultural
production
alternates
with cattle
farming due
to the soil's
fertility
levels.
Biblian
The
parish of
Biblian was
elevated to
canton status
by President
Velasco Ibarra
on the 1st
August, 1944.
Biblian is
therefore
the province's
youngest canton.
The terrain
is extremely
hilly.
The area's
main river
is Burgay,
the land is
well-suited
to cattle
farming and
the cultivation
of agricultural
products.
The canton
extends for
approximately
232 kms squared.
