Phone
calls
For
international
and long distance
domestic telephone
calls, Andinatel
has offices
just west
of the junction
of Colon and
Amazonas in
the new town
[among
others],
Benalcazar
and Meija
in the old
town, at Terminal
Terrestre
and at the
airport. Cheaper
'net-phones'
are available
in the internet
cafes in the
Mariscal area.
Post
Offices
Because Ecuador
is such a
great place
for shopping,
many travellers
find themselves
sending home
their new
purchases.
If you're
in this situation
and are staying
in the Mariscal
area, go to
the post
office
on the ground
floor of the
big, modern
building at
Reina Victoria
and Colon.
Don't seal
your packages,
and bring
packing tape
with you in
case of inspection.
The maximum
weight is
20 kg
[44 lb]
and 70 x 30
x 30 cm
[20
x 12 x 12 inches]
is the maximum
size. Another
recommended
Correo [post
office]
is Maritimo
Aduana,
on Ulloa 273
and Ramirez
Davalos, next
to the Santa
Clara market.
Quito's two
main post
offices are
on Espejo,
between Guayaquil
and Venezuela
in the old
town, and
at Eloy Alfaro 354
and 9
de Octubre
in the new
town. All
poste
restante
mail for Quito
goes to the
Espejo branch
unless marked
"Correo
Central, Eloy
Alfaro."
Post offices
are open Monday
to Friday
8am to 7pm,
8am to noon
weekends.
Internet
You
won't find
a shortage
of computer
terminals
for email
in Quito.
The greatest
concentration
is in 'Gringolandia':
the area around
Juan Leon
Mera and Calama.
Most cost
around $1
an hour.
