 CINEMAS

The two mainstream cinemas in Quito. Multicines is in the CCI complex on Naciones Unidas and Amazonas, and Cinemark is in the Plaza de las Americas at the corner of Avenidas Republica and America. Both have about seven screens and good sound.

Multicines is a lot closer to Mariscal, but doesn't have many appealing restaurants close-by apart from Ch'Farina across the road. Get to them early for popular releases, or else book by phone [MasterCard only].

Alternative cinemas showing a wide variety of films include the art-house cinema in the Casa de la Cultura, at Patria and 6 de Diciembre. The Casa is also the city's best venue for classical music, theatre and dance. Cine 8 y Medio in Valladolid behind Swissotel has foreign films and film festivals including the popular Eurocine every year in May. The cafe is a great place for chilling out.
