A good day excursion is a trip to the Parque Educacional Ambiental y Recreacional de Argelia. It has some beautiful forest walks and through to the Paramo. The park is located some 510m before the police station on the road to Vilcabamba. Open until 5pm. Take a bus marked "Argelia" from the city centre.

Along the same road across from the Parque Educacional is the Jardin Botanico Reynaldo Espinosa. It's an interesting place to visit and features a good collection of cinchona trees. Parque Jipiro is good for famiiles, with an adventure park for children and a lake with swans and boats for rent.  Within Loja visit La Puerta de la Cuidad. It has a cafe with a museum and provides a great view of the city.
