Trekking
Excellent
trekking ground
at Cajas
National Park
and surrounding
areas.
Horse
riding
Fishing
The
lakes in Cajas
National Park
are great
for trout
fishing.

biking
Shopping
Some
say Cuenca
is the best
place in Ecuador
for shopping.
It's certainly
true that
prices seem
as good, if
not better,
than elsewhere
in the country
and there's
plenty of
choice. Around
Gran
Colombia
and roads
leading off
it, shops
sell ikat
weavings,
woolen sweaters,
leather goods,
carvings,
basketwork,
antiques,
jewellery,
filigree work,
silver and
gold items,
precious stones,
paintings,
sculpture,
pottery, ceramic
tiles, candelabra,
cameras, camping
equipment,
panama
hats,
and more.
The area around
the Iglesia
and Convento
de Las Conceptas
is also packed
with some
great antique
and souvenir
shops. The
two main markets
are around
the Plaza
de San Francisco
and Plaza
Rotary,
which are
best for craft
items. Stands
are open most
days of the
week, but
the main market
days are Thursdays
and Saturdays.
You can also
visit a panama
hat factory
where the
finishing
stages are
carried out.
The main work
on the hats
is done in
the weavers'
homes.
