One
of the earliest
towns in the
region, Canar
was established
by the Spanish
before they
went on to
found Azogues.
Written evidence
indicates
that wheat
was produced
in around
1550. The
whole area
is home to
mountain peaks
including
Pucaloma,
Paredones,
Cutuguay and
Bueran. Canar
is rich in
agriculture
and cattle-rearing,
and is especially
suited to
the cultivation
of potatoes
and other
root vegetables.
