BANOS DE AGUA SANTA / GETTING THERE
Due to mudslides from Tungurahua and repairs on the Banos-Puyo road, don't be surprised by delays getting to and from the town. The Terminal Terrestre bus terminal is on the main highway, on the north side of town, within walking distance of all cheaper hotels. Regular bus services to Ambato, Quito and Riobamba abound. Transport eastwards and downwards to Puyo and to the Amazon basin is less frequent. Banos is a popular for a weekend break away from Quito, and buses are pretty full at these times. It's sometimes best to change in Ambato for a connecting bus as opposed to waiting.

To Ambato, 45 minutes, [US$0.80*]; Riobamba, 2 hours. Through the Banos-Riobamba road, buses also go via Ambato [US$1.80*]; Quito, via Ambato, 3 1/2 hours [US$3,20*]; Latacunga, 2 and 21/2 hours, [US$1.70*]; Puyo, 2 hours, [US$1.70*]; Misahualli, change at Tena; Macas, 7 hours, [US$3.60*]; Tena, 51/2 hours, [US$2.70*].
