 AMBATO / GETTING THERE

Ambato's airport isn't used for public transport, so you'll have to take the bus. The bus station lies two kilometres [under a mile] northeast of the city centre on Avenida las Americas. To get to the bus station from the city centre, take a bus from from Parque Cevallos or a taxi which won't cost you much. There plenty of buses to all destinations north and south on the Panamericana, as well as Guayaquil, or down to the Oriente. The train station is close to the bus station, with trains to just outside Quito on Friday and Riobamba on Saturday.

To Guayaquil, 6 1/2 hours [US$6*]; Quito, 2 3/4 hours [US$2,00*]; Banos, 45 minutes, [US$0.80*]; Cuenca, 7 hours [US$5,00*]; Latacunga, 45 minutes, [US$0.80*]; Santo Domingo de los Colorados, 4 hours, [US$2.80*]; Riobamba, 1 hour. Ticket value around US$0.90. To Guaranda, 1 hour, [US$1.80*]; Tena, 6 hours, [US$4.50*]; Macas, 61/2 hours, [US$3.50*]; Puyo, 3 hours, [US$2.80*]; Loja, 12 hours, [US$7,00*], Machala, 7 hours, [US$5.30*]; Esmeraldas, 8 hours, [US$4.95*].
