TOURIST
ATTRACTIONS
The
province constitutes
tropical jungle,
therefore
presenting
the visitor
with beautiful
scenery incorporating
rivers, plants,
trees and
wildlife.
Marine life
can also be
appreciated
here: dolphins,
alligators
and crocodiles.
The Cuyabeno
lakes, located
in the canton
of Putumayo, with their
bioanthropologic
reserve extending
some 665,000
hectares are
also popular
among visitors.
Crossing the
region is
possible by
part-car,
part-boat.
Other
attractions
are: Lago
Agrio ,
Shushufindi,
las Tinas
(canton of
Cascales),
Lago

There is also
a tourist
boat which
runs the
river Aguarico,
the province’s
most important
river.
FESTIVALS
Every
year the following
dates and
festivals
are important:
February
12th: Day
of the Ecuadorian
Amazon, 13th February:
the creation
of the province,
June 20th:
cantonisation
of Lago Agrio.
TYPICAL
DISHES
Zarapatoca
prepared with
turtle meat,
a range of
fish dishes,
Uchumanga
composed
of the intestines
of wild animals,
Cazave
tortillas
made with
yucca. Beverages
made with
yucca, corn,
rice, plantain
and sweet
fruits are
among the
most typical
in the province.
