The
pure and crystal
waters of
the Amazon's
turbulent
rivers provide
fantastic
conditions
for
rafting
and kayaking,
two of the
region's most
popular sports.
Along the
Napo, Misahualli,
Hollin, or
Calmitoyacu
rivers near
the 16th century
town of Archidona
there's a
world of underground
rivers, passageways
and impressive
caves.
With
its variety
of rivers
catering to
all standards,
Tena
is Ecuador's
watersports
capital. Choose
between the
calm waters
and the excitement
offered by
heavy rapids.
Along
the Upano
River there
are watersports
schools for
tourists wanting
an adventure
in Southern
Ecuador. The
Casanga and
Quijos Rivers
in Baeza
[Napo]
or the lake
in Lago Agrio
[Nueva
Loja,
Sucumbios],
offer some
great fishing.
The main travel
agencies in
the country’s
major cities,
including
the capitals
of the Amazon
provinces,
will organise
any trip or
tour. To participate
in high risk
sports such
as kayaking
or rafting,
you need to
have a specialised
guide who
knows the
river and
jungle territories.
