The
easiest and
quickest way
to get to
and from Misahualli
is by bus.
Buses depart
several times
a day from
the main plaza
to Tena, where
there are
onward connections.
Buses also
leave from
Tena
to the small
downriver
village of
Ahuano,
beyond Misahualli
on the north
bank of the
Napo.
But the bus
has to take
the road on
the south
bank to La
Punta
[not
marked on
many maps],
and passengers
cross to Ahuano
by dug-out
canoe. This
is the best
way to get
to Casa del
Suizo or Cabanas
Anaconda unless
the lodge
has already
arranged transport.
A more romantic
and exciting
way to travel
up and down
the Rio
Napo
is by boat.
There is usually
a passenger
boat from
Misahualli
to downriver
settlements
en route to
Coca.
Departing
in the morning,
it costs about
US$20*,
although you
might have
to wait until
the boat fills
to keep the
fare down.
Passage in
your own boat
costs about
10 times more.
Motorised
dug-out canoes
make the six-hour
journey between
Coca
and Misahualli
once or twice
a week, but
their schedules
depend on
demand and
river conditions.
Ask around
the port to
find out which
boats are
leaving and
when, and
register with
the capitania
before
departure.
