 COCA / GENERAL INFORMATION

Foreigners arriving in or leaving Coca by river are required to show their passports at the Capitania by the landing dock. For those on group tours this will most likely be taken care of by the agency, as will down-river transport by motorised canoe. For independent travellers, boats usually leave around 8am Mondays [and sometimes Thursdays] and return on Sundays [and sometimes Wednesdays].

Other useful facilities in Coca include an Andinatel office, a post office, and an INEFAN office [06- 880171, on Amazonas and Bolivar streets]. The office is a useful place to find information on the rainforest. Entrance fees into the park are paid here. Forget using traveller's cheques or credit cards. There is no tourist office worthy of the name, but there are a number of private travel agencies. Although there are many operators offering cheap trips, bear in mind that the likelihood of non-English speaking or inexperienced guides, bad food, basic accommodation and engine troubles increases with every dollar you think you're saving.

Money

There are no facilities for changing traveller's cheques or using credit cards.
