   FLORA AND FAUNA

Flora

As far as flora is concerned, Pasochoa forest has accommodated a number of research studies in order to ascertain the exact floral composition of the Andes original ecosystems. Trees such as the pumamaqui, polylepis , laurel and palms along with a further sixty species are found in the refuge.

 

Fauna

Within this unique ecosystem there are over a hundred kinds of bird species, including the Andean condor, a diverse range of humming birds and tanagers. There are also various animal species, including the cuchucho, vixens, vermin, all of which are rarely spotted along the mountain ranges of Ecuador .
