Generally
speaking
all
current
access
routes
to
the
Reserve
are
difficult
to
pass
through
or
determined
by
the
rain,
which
can
sometimes
disable
all
access
routes
between
the
months
of
January
to
June.
Due
to
the
fact
that
at
present
there
is
a
severe
lack
of
infrastructure
and
services
in
the
zone,
advancing
into
the
interior
of
the
Reserve
can
prove
to
be
somewhat
of
an
adventure,
which
almost
certainly
requires
the
assistance
of
a
knowledgeable
local
guide.
The
Santo-Domingo
de
Los
Colorados
–
Esmeraldas
route
passes
through
Rosa
Zarate
(alos
known
as
Quininde)
closeby.
Along
this
same
route
access
to
the
village
of
Herrera
is
situated,
from
where
the
road
continues
to
La
Y
de
la
Laguna.
Taking
into
account
the
aforementioned
climatic
conditions,
it’s
possible
to
reach
the
marsh
Estero
Platano
and
the
mouth
of
River
Taguales.
This
route
is
the
most
practical
and
also
leads
to
Bilsa
Private
Reserve.
Access
is
also
possible
from
Esmeraldas,
Atacames
and
Muisne,
however,
these
routes
are
impractical
and
complicated
and
the
condition
of
the
roads
must
be
confirmed
before
embarking
on
your
journey.
River
Ene
can
be
accessed
from
the
Esmeraldas
with
some
difficulty
towards
the
north
of
the
Reserve.
Another
route
worth
mentioning
is
that
which
originates
in
Atacames
leading
to
the
river
of
the
same
name
and
continuing
towards
Union
de
Atacames
and
finally
arriving
at
the
Santa
Teresa
enclosure
close
to
the
Reserve’s
border.
If
wishing
to
continue
further
along
this
route,
it’s
possible
to
go
on
horseback
towards
the
Reserve’s
border.
Access
from
Muisne
is
possible
by
boat
along
the
River
Boca
del
Sucio,
which
leads
to
Chachi
de
San
Salvador
along
the
Reserve’s
western
border.
